CBS’ hit procedural drama has been on screens since it first premiered in 2003, which would make blunders inevitable. However, this major mistake spotted by eagle-eyed NCIS viewers was unveiled in season one.
One viewer took to Reddit to expose the blunder from the episode titled ‘Hung Out to Dry,’ which saw Special Agent Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon) and the team investigate the death of a marine.
Up until November, skilled investigator Gibbs, led the team of agents as they aimed to solve intense criminal cases.
Throughout the series, the squad have tracked down terrorists and high-profile criminals, however, its not so humble beginnings saw them successfully solve mysterious cases.
This included the episode from season one, where fans spotted the mistake when a Marine’s parachute appeared to have failed when he crash-landed through an SVU and met his death.
During the investigation, Gibbs and the team were able to solve the case which revealed it wasn’t an accident at all.
NCIS discovered the parachute wasn’t faulty but instead, it was rigged to fail and kill the marine.
After a locker search, new recruit Kate Todd (Sasha Alexander) found a solvent which could have destroyed the parachute, in the locker of Corporal Ramsey (Dave Power).
Despite previously getting into a physical altercation with the victim, he claimed innocence and stated he was being framed.
After another examination of the parachute, traces of drugs were discovered which indicated the victim was killed after he discovered someone’s drug business.
The murderer was unveiled to be Corporal Paul Dafelmair (Rick Pasqualone) and it was during his interrogation when fans spotted the blunder.
Taking to Reddit, the eagle-eyed fan APW25 spotted a crew member in the reflection of the mirror and posted a photo from the episode.
In response, user backwoodcj also noted, “this was often the case with morgue scenes.”
The Redditor added: “I don’t remember the episodes but there’s a few full fledged reflection shots where people see they’re in the shot and panic.
“I’ve watched NCIS as a whole probably 3 times and I like how I can still find new things every time,” they concluded.
IJustWatchMovies recalled another similar blunder from the series: “I remember something like this when the crew was filming on a ship or something, the person who was holding the
camera, well that guys finger was literally popping out slightly,” they remarked, “When this stuff happens it’s funny af.”
While the blunder sparked a reaction from fans, November also saw a huge uproar from viewers after Gibbs’ departure was aired.
After starring in the role for two decades fan favourite Mark Harmon stepped away from his role as the beloved character.
While fans were distraught and expressed this on social media, Gibbs said goodbye to his team in the episode titled ‘Great White Open.’
Despite this, his return was hinted by showrunner Steve Binder, who teased: “So regarding the future of Gibbs, as long-time fans of the show may have noticed over the years…never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out.”
NCIS season 19 continues Mondays on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
