Netflix confirms After Life season 2 will return in April with first look pics of Ricky Gervais

NETFLIX has confirmed After Life season two will return in April with first look pictures of Ricky Gervais.

The first series – which was released last year – proved to be a mega hit for Ricky, 58, leading to a second season being commissioned.

Now, a series of new pictures have been released for series two, which sees Ricky's character Tony still struggling with immense grief for his wife.

Despite this, Tony tries to become a better friend to those around him as Each grapple with their own problems.

These only intensify with the looming threat of the local newspaper – where Tony is a journalist – being shut down.

Will the town’s local Am-Dram show lift everyone’s spirits?

Ahead of the show's return on April 24, Ricky spoke about the reaction he received from season one.

He told The Graham Norton Show in November: "I’ve never had a reaction like it and with social media now, you hear about it.

"It has been overwhelming and it’s the type of reaction as well.

"People have been coming up to me on the street and saying 'Oh, I lost my mum, or I lost my buddy'.

"I’m there thinking 'Oh my God, everyone is grieving'."

Previous snaps from the second season saw Ricky beaming as Tony, as he held on to his beloved dog Brandy's lead, while his late wife Lisa – played by Kerry Godliman – rested her head on his shoulder as they walked along together.

The picture excited and confused fans in equal measure because of Lisa's presence, with one writing: "Was it all a dream? Did she not really die?"

However, the fact that Brandy is a puppy in the shot hints it's another flashback of Tony's, which other fans picked up on.

After Life season two premieres on April 24 on Netflix.
