Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell) and Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) find themselves in a tricky situation in Coronation Street next week when they knock down a pensioner.

Faye, as viewers know, has been taking driving lessons, and last week, Emma agreed to take over as her instructor, after a mishap left Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) unable to continue teaching her.

Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) then asked Emma if she would assist Faye, and despite some initial hesitation, she agreed to do so.

But Monday’s (January 3) offering of the ITV soap sees things take a shocking turn, as Faye drives both she and Emma home from their New Year’s Eve party.

Emma, joyous following a good night out, sings along to Auld Lang Syne, much to the dismay of Faye, who insists that her rendition of the track isn’t helping matters.

Tragedy strikes in the moments that follow – as seen in the above clip from the episode in question – as Faye’s vehicle collides with an elderly man named Ted, who was returning home from his shopping.

Ted lies motionless on the street.

‘Oh my gosh we’ve killed him!’, screams Emma. The question is: is Ted really dead?

Spoilers for the episode in question indicates that Ted lives following the collision, much to the relief of Faye and Emma.

In fact, he even invites them into his flat for a brew!

Emma is shaken, however, when she returns to the street she calls home, and later scenes will see both she and Faye return to the flat to check up on Ted and apologise.

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday January 3 at 7:30pm on ITV.
