Olly Murs reveals one more knee injury could see him end his music career

AFTER a nasty knee injury left him out of action last year, Olly Murs has admitted he may have to quit music for good if he hurts it again.

In an exclusive interview, the Moves singer revealed he is currently waiting to see if he needs a knee replacement and has to remain cautious at all times.

Olly, who underwent a knee op in June 2019 and was rushed to hospital three months later over fears it had become infected, explained: “It’s the arthritis and reconstruction I had in my knee. It’s never going to be perfect, I’ve just got to be careful.

“If I did my knee again it could be curtains. I won’t be able to dance and perform on stage.

“My bread and butter is my music, performing and touring. Being able to dance and perform on stage is what I do, it’s what I get paid to do, it’s what I love to do.

“If that was taken away from me because I went out and played football and twisted my knee again . . .

“I might need a knee replacement so I’m very conscious to make sure my knee is fit and healthy. It’s always going to be in the back of my mind that if I end up doing my knee again, I might not be able to come back and do my singing.”

Olly managed to take part in this year’s Soccer Aid, an annual charity competition that has remained close to his heart since his first match back in 2010.

While he didn’t sustain any injuries during the game at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium in October, Olly did suffer a sore ear from his team’s manager Wayne Rooney.

Along with former Towie star and teammate Mark Wright, Olly said they got a roasting from the Red Devils legend and his co-manager Sam Allardyce over their timekeeping and attitude.

Olly said: “We just turned up after doing Loose Women to promote the match, so we had a valid reason for being late.

“We turned up and Sam and Wayne were genuinely annoyed with us, saying ‘Why are you guys late? It’s not good enough’,”

“Me and Wrighty were like, ‘Was he being serious or was it for TV?’”

Speaking about the moment he was given the “hair dryer” treatment, Olly recalled: “Wayne said, ‘Think you’re the skipper don’t you? Well you’re not setting a good example’.

“He said: ‘Stop making excuses, I don’t care what you’ve been doing — just get out there’.”

Olly’s 2021 tour of outdoor venues runs from June to August.

Wes on track for new year

AFTER swapping the Love Island villa for vinyl, Wes Nelson’s music career goes from strength to strength.

Following debut hit See Nobody with Hardy Caprio, which peaked at No3, Wes is lining up a new release.

Asked about it in a new interview, he teased: “My new single is coming out very, very soon. It’s going to be a good year of music.”

Wes will also perform a set on Top Of The Pops on Thursday, becoming the first Love Islander to appear on the show.

But speaking on the Daze podcast, out this week, he admitted he avoided music at school because he was too shy to show his talent.

He said: “I wasn’t confident enough then. I used to envy the music class, seeing them playing and singing, and wished I could do it. I was too scared to get judged.

“If I could go back now and do it, I would.

“The first time I sang outside my shower, in front of my parents, or anyone, was on The X Factor: Celebrity [last year] in front of millions. That threw me in the deep end.

“Then as soon as I’d done that, it was like a switch had gone off in my head.”

LIAM Payne has insisted his former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles is the nicest guy in pop.

Speaking on Capital Breakfast today, Liam said: “He’s never really lost himself, even in spite of everything.

“After the band we didn’t speak for a long time actually and then I remember seeing him.

“It was at a Jingle Bell Ball, backstage for the first time in a long while, and he’s still the same guy he always was when we left each other.”

Liam also said he loved Harry’s recent Vogue mag cover, where he posed in a dress and fishnets.

When asked what he thought of the controversial photoshoot, Liam said: “It was great. I think he’s enjoying himself and he’s free to do as he wishes – and you know I just think  that people don’t need to be so bothered about stuff.”

Squat a fuss, girls

WE’VE seen plenty of Instagram poses come and go – but it seems the squat-and-pout is here to stay.

Everyone from Kendall Jenner to Dua Lipa and Pixie Lott, both pictured here, are getting in on the craze.

Dua revealed she’d perfected the look for selfies as she got down in front of a mirror while wearing a bright pink dress with cut-out loops.

Meanwhile, Pixie showed the pose worked just as well when your boyfriend, aka Oliver Cheshire, was the one behind the lens. The model snapped his pop star fiancée on Sunday as she posed in snakeskin boots and a white dress.

I’ll be giving it a go myself come New Year’s Eve, but I don’t think I’ll be able to do it justice.

Lad wants Bru, Lew

LADBABY wants Lewis Capaldi to help him top the Christmas charts for a fourth time next year by recording a track called All I Want For Christmas Is Irn Bru.

The hitmaker, whose latest festive No1 Don’t Stop Me Eatin’ raises funds for food banks, said: “The song will be for a good cause and is aimed at putting a smile on everyone’s face.

“Lewis said he wanted to have a sausage roll with me. When we’re allowed to see each other we need to record the single. I’m ready to do this when Lewis is.”

I am so excited about this.

Rap duo living the stream

RAPPERS 21 Savage and Meek Mill are developing their own music platform in a bid to launch a new digital streaming service.

The pair announced they were starting the venture in a bid to maximise “black wealth”.

Meek told fans on Twitter they had been speaking to investors to see who would back the plan and hoped to launch next year.

He added: “With respect to Spotify, we get millions with them – it’s one of my biggest platforms I sell on. We need their help too… but we gonna build something where we can maximize black wealth and we not gonna fail by any means. We not even trying to build the same thing as Spotify, Tidal, Apple – we want to create a platform/tool and connect it with those big companies.”

Little Christmas up North

SINGER Jade Thirlwall and Jordan Stephens from Rizzle Kicks spent their first Christmas together up North.

The Little Mix star got a hug from Jordan while shopping in Newcastle.

I can see this pair going the distance.

Jason ’n’ Jen’s hol lotta love

AFTER finding love in a time of coronavirus back in March, Jason Derulo and Jena Frumes have jetted off on their first holiday.

The singer and model touched down in Jamaica on Sunday and spent today soaking up the sun and posting snaps on Instagram.

I revealed in March how the US pair had started dating and decided to move in together in LA during lockdown. In August, Jason told how they had met at the gym. He added: “We have a similar desire to work out all the time. I’d seen her once there before, then the second time I was like, ‘Aight, imma go talk to her’. The rest is history.”

Their romance has clearly gone from strength to strength, as they plan to see in 2021 in the Caribbean.

STRICTLY finalist HRVY has quit social media as his romance with co-star Maisie Smith hots up.

The pop star posted on Twitter today to say he was taking a step back. HRVY wrote: “Thinking of you all – just taking some time away from my phone. Be back soon. Can’t wait to be back making music.”
