Piers Morgan’s furious Meghan Markle rant on GMB tops Ofcom 2021 complaint list
TV regulator Ofcom has recently revealed that Good Morning Britain has topped their list for most complained about moment on TV.
The huge number of complaints were sparked when Piers Morgan said he did not believe Meghan Markle's claims regarding her mental health.
In the controversial episode which aired in March, former GMB presenter Piers said he "didn't believe a word" of what Meghan discussed with Oprah Winfrey during her explosive interview regarding the Royal family and her experiences.
After Meghan's bombshell interview aired, Piers had a lot to say on ITV the following day which lead him to have a clash with weather presenter Alex Beresford and storm off set as a result.
The outspoken host also challenged Meghan's claims of royal racism and suicidal thoughts and left the morning programme for good when he failed to see eye to eye with his colleagues
Media regulator Ofcom revealed this week that Piers' episode received 54,595 complaints.
But despite the uproar that was made by viewers, Piers was later cleared by Ofcom of breaching broadcasting rules after the Duchess of Sussex was among a wave of people who complained that his questioning of her claims was "harmful" and "offensive" to viewers.
However, Meghan and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah which also aired on ITV received a number of Ofcom complaints too and appeared fourth on their list.
In the programme, the Sussexes accused the royal family- which they labelled as "the firm"- of not supporting them.
The couple also claimed royal aides refused to help Meghan when she was troubled with her mental health and said a relative had made a racist remark about their son Archie's skin colour before he was born.
Ofcom revealed that they received a record number of complaints in 2021 which was a 124 per cent rise on last year.
However, the total figure did not include complaints regarding the BBC, which are handled by the corporation in the first instance.
Reality show Love Island also received several complaints from concerned spectators and was the second programme on the list.
In August, contestant Faye Winter had a lengthy outburst which she delivered to her now-boyfriend Teddy Soares, prompting 24,921 complaints.
Faye's explosive rant was uncomfortable to watch and unsettled several Love Island fans at the time.
