Simon Gregson vows to ‘keep the weight off’ after dropping a stone on I’m A Celeb

I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! finalist Simon Gregson has vowed to "keep the weight off" that he lost during his stint on the ITV show.

During OK!’s exclusive festive shoot and interview alongside his family after his Castle exit, Coronation Street star Simon revealed that he had dropped more than a stone thanks to the rice and beans diet.

Now, since leaving the camp, the 47 year old – who enjoyed a reunion with wife Emma, 38, and their sons Alfie, 14, Harry, 12, and five-year-old Henry – wants to embark on a healthier lifestyle into the New Year.

He told us: “I’ve got home and can see I’ve lost so much weight.”

Simon, best known as Weatherfield’s Steve McDonald, continued: “Then I put on the TV to see an episode back and I thought, ‘Oh my God, I was ginormous.’

“I don’t think I’ve been that heavy before in my life, it was because of lockdown. Now I’d love to keep the weight off.

“I’m going to try and live a healthier lifestyle, as when I was doing the [celebrity] cyclone challenge, I think I was the only one who didn’t enjoy it!“

Asked whether his New Year’s resolution for 2022 will be to continue to be a bit healthier, Simon replied: “Absolutely. Although I say that, I nailed a huge Chinese takeaway the other night!”

While his wife Emma added that she will support him, saying: “We do walks with the kids. Isolation and lockdown didn’t help, I think everyone’s in the same boat.”

The mum-of-three added: “We’ll get fit in the new year though.”

Elsewhere in the joint interview, Simon reflected on his time on the show alongside winner Danny Miller and contestants like Adam Woodyatt and Frankie Bridge.

Speaking about signing up to the show, Simon explained: “You’re always worried about being yourself in front of the cameras. In my job, you never really get the opportunity to see that side of you.”

“So it was more a case of just trying to be yourself, relax and not put yourself under any pressure.”

However, thanks to the other contestants, Simon explained he felt at ease and was happy to show another side to himself to TV viewers.

“But because everyone in there was so lovely, it made it easy to be yourself.”

“So it’s nice that people have been able to see someone who otherwise they’d only really know as Steve McDonald."
