Strictly's Janette Manrara told Sara Davies 'take Aljaz, he's yours' as she urged them to 'tell a love story'
STRICTLY Come Dancing's Janette Manrara told Sara Davies "take Aljaz, he's yours" as she urged them to "tell a love story" on the dance floor.
The 37-year-old star has been loved up with the hunky dancer since 2009, tying the knot in 2017, and the pair have consistently avoided the infamous 'Strictly Curse' despite both being stars of the show.
And last month Dragon's Den's Sara admitted that Janette had told her to imagine Aljaz is her own husband while they are performing for the judges.
Now, Janette has had her say – defending her stance as she explained: "Yes, you are doing the rumba, so she has to look at him like he's her own husband, they're telling a love story, and that song means a lot to her and it always reminds her of her husband.
"I told her 'for the dance, you need to take him, he's yours'. And they did really well. When they dance together it’s their moment, he's hers in that moment."
When confronted about the Strictly Curse, Janette proved that she is far from concerned as she continued to Daily Star: "What are you trying to get at?!
"He is his own human being – I am his wife and he is my husband and I am very pleased to see them doing so well."
Sara previously said of Janette's support: "Janette gave me a right talking to about it. She said, 'look Sara, you're going to have to look into his eyes and imagine that my husband is actually your husband and imagine it's Simon and dance it like it's him'.
"She said: 'I'm good with it, Simon is good with it, you have to be good with it'."
Janette previously revealed that she and Aljaz were on the verge of splitting before Strictly saved their relationship.
They first met while performing in Broadway's Burn The Floor, and toured the world together – but with the tour drawing to a close the couple faced a difficult long-distance relationship.
While she prepared to jet back to LA, Aljaz was going to return to Slovenia.
Speaking on the Sliding Doors podcast, Janette confessed: "The thought of doing the whole long-distance thing made it hard for us. We were very scared about what was going to happen to our relationship."
But in a twist of fate, Strictly producers spotted them while watching the Broadway production, and asked them both to audition for the show.
He is his own human being – I am his wife and he is my husband and I am very pleased to see them doing so well.
The professional dancer shared: "They called me first and asked me to join the show, I didn’t scream but my face said it all. Within 5 minutes they called him [Aljaz] straight after.
"It was a dream come true. Getting Strictly Come Dancing was the most incredible thing, not just for my career but for my personal life and marriage with Aljaz because if it wasn’t for Strictly, I don’t know if we could have worked through the long-distance thing."
The two signed up to the BBC dance show for its 11th series in 2013, and got married in 2017 – with many of their fellow Strictly pros and celebrity pals attending the wedding.
Earlier this year, Janette quit her role as a professional dancer on the show and instead hosts its sister programme It Takes Two alongside Rylan.
