The Chase fans gobsmacked as episode ‘chosen’ to cheer England on at Euros final

The Chase fans were left playing detective during Thursday's episode of the iconic ITV quiz show, as they spotted a vital clue as to why one repeat was selected.
The programme has been airing repeat episodes during a filming break for the regular series.
But this one seemed to have a rather patriotic reason behind its selection, as it featured a football related question ahead of England's Euros final on Sunday against Italy.
Host Bradley quizzed contestant Christine about the song Three Lions, penned by David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and The Lightning Seeds, asking: "Which football player is the first mentioned in the song 'Three Lions' for his missed penalty against Germany in 1996?"
The answer was, of course, current England manager Gareth Southgate – though Christine plumped for the wrong answer.
Thankfully, she still made it back to the rest of her team for the Final Chase.
But fans flocked to social media to predict the real reason the episode was selected, with one penning: "Question about Gareth Southgate missing the penalty, they must have picked this episode on purpose! #TheChase."
Someone else wrote: "Perfect timing on that Southgate question (even if the episode is old!)".
And a third fan chirped: "How relevant is The Chase today? Japan and Southgate! Is it deliberately like this?" in reference to Japan's current Covid-19 state of emergency as live audiences are barred from the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
"That Southgate question seems too coincidental…" someone else mused, as another social media user agreed: "Obviously they have all the football questions now."
"You mean they picked this episode for that question?" another Twitter user responded.
And despite the episode having initially aired before the Covid-19 pandemic occurred, a later question aimed at Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan concerned which country the city of Wuhan lay in.
Wuhan, located in China, is of course considered the epicentre for the coronavirus.
"They mentioned Wuhan on #TheChase before Covid!!!" someone chimed in on social media, as someone else posted: "F*** me Wuhan! Little did they know then…"

But despite four attempts to push back during the Final Chase – with two of them executed – even with four brains the team couldn't beat Jenny to the post, as she caught them during the final round.
"Cracking team, they set me a good score. And I very nearly didn't find my rhythm," Jenny admitted to Bradley as the show concluded.
