What happens in Corrie on Christmas Day and when is it on?

Sitting down with the family to watch Christmas Day Coronation Street is a festive tradition that goes almost all the way back to Dickens’ time. You can always rely on the citizens of Weatherfield to serve up plenty of excitement with the turkey and this year is set to be a good one, with romance, drama and a wide variation in the quality of Christmas gifts – which include one very special surprise.

What time is Coronation Street on Christmas Day?

Corrie will air an hour long episode at 8pm on Christmas Day. But if you can’t wait that long, the episode will be uploaded to the ITV hub at 7am.

What happens in Coronation Street on Christmas Day?

Tyrone (Alan Halsall) and Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) are getting ready for a quiet Christmas with just the two of them, so Tyrone is over the moon when Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) arrives with the girls. Tyrone is happy that Fiz and Phill (Jamie Kenna) have cancelled their holiday and he’s even prepared to put up with Phill’s presence all day if it means spending Christmas with Fiz, Hope (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby (Macy Alabi).

But the whole atmosphere of festive cheer gets Tyrone a bit carried away, and he risks a cheeky kiss with Fiz. Will he get the warm reaction he’s hoping for? And what will Phill’s reaction be if he discovers what happened?

Meanwhile, Nina (Mollie Gallagher) is having a difficult time, struggling with her anxiety and PTSD and terrified that she’s going to lose someone else she loves. Luckily a concerned Carla (Alison King) has noticed that Nina is having a hard time, and she arranges for Nina to have the best Christmas present she could wish for.

Christmas with the Platts’ is never a shining example of peace on Earth and goodwill to all, and this year is no exception as they share the festivities with the Barlows. With Audrey (Sue Nicholls) hitting the wine at breakfast time, David (Jack P Shepherd) in a particularly grumpy mood, Gail (Helen Worth) declaring that she’s not planning to lift a finger the whole day and Peter (Chris Gascoyne) and Carla vanishing altogether, Sarah (Tina O’Brien) despairs about her ungrateful family.

But at least she has Adam (Sam Robertson). Will they be able to put recent differences over Lydia (Rebecca Ryan) behind them and enjoy a romantic Christmas?

Whatever happens they’ll probably do better than Eileen (Sue Cleaver), who gets a very bizarre Christmas present from George (Tony Maudsley).

And there’s some festive fun as Nick (Ben Price), Leanne (Jane Danson) and Sam (Jude Riordan) join Daisy (Charlotte Jordan), Emma (Alexandra Mardell), Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell), George, Todd (Gareth Pierce), Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove), Dev (Jimmi Harkishin), Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) and Ed (Trevor Michael Georges), as everyone gathers around the piano in the Christmas market for a festive sing-along.

It’s a lovely celebration of togetherness and happiness – but behind the doors of Coronation Street all sorts of dramas are simmering, ready to keep us glued to our screens from Boxing Day and beyond.
