The Walking Dead has seen a number of beloved characters killed off over the years, so much so the AMC series has become known for its shocking cast exits. The series has to regularly replenish the supply of victims for the zombie hoards, and the 11th and final season is doing just that. But who are the new cast members, including Mercer (played by Michael James Shaw), in the final season?

Who is joining the cast in season 11?

Since debuting in 2010, many regular characters have been killed off – from Glenn (Steven Yeun) to Andrea (Laurie Holden).

Many of their characters faced the same fate, being overrun by wave after wave of zombies or succumbing to the long line of deadly enemies such as the Governor (David Morrisey) or Alpha (Samantha Morton).

For many fans, it is the reason to watch the show, with the survivors struggling still proving to be gripping entertainment 11 seasons on.

All the regulars are coming back, including Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Melissa McBride as Carol, Eleanor Matsuura as Yumiko, Christian Serratos as Rosita Espinosa and Josh McDermitt as Eugene Porter.

Express.co.uk has brought together all the newcomers for season 11 so fans can get to know them before the final season’s premiere.

Mercer – Michael James Shaw

Before season 10 came to a close, viewers were confronted by the arrival of soldiers from the Commonwealth, clad in white armour.

In the comics, Mercer is one of the architects behind these soldiers, serving as a high-tech officer within the Commonwealth.

He has higher ambitions though and if the series stays true to the source material, he will play a major role in the last season.

Michael James Shaw will be familiar to comic book fans, having starred in Avengers Endgame as Corvus Glaive, Shaw is also known for Constantine and the Limitless series.

Shaw recently shared a snap of himself on Instagram, dressed in the Commonwealth’s armour.

Shaw captioned the post: “#Mercer 8.22 @amcthewalkingdead returns!”

Pamala Milton – Laila Robins

In the comics, Pamala Milton is the Governor of the Commonwealth and one of the main antagonists of the entire series.

Played by Laila Milton in the show, she will be a dangerous adversary for the survivors to face.

Milton has a wealth of experience coming into season 11, with the star appearing in some of the biggest films of the past 30 years.

Most recently, Milton could be seen in Dr Death, NBC’s The Blacklist and The Boys as Grace Mallory.

Lance Hornsby – Josh Hamilton

Josh Hamilton is also joining the cast as Lance Hornsby, another enigmatic character making his debut from the comics.

Hornsby is a bookkeeper for the Commonwealth and known for being both vain and prideful, often to a fault.

Most fans will recognise the star from 13 Reasons Why, where he played Matt Jensen throughout the series.

Other than that, Hamilton is best known for Eighth Grade, Dark Skies, Ray Donovan, and Mrs Fletcher.

Margot Bingham – Stephanie

Finally, Margot Bingham is joining the cast as Stephanie, the mysterious voice and romantic interest of Eugene who he first contacted via his radio.

Bingham has been involved in The Walking Dead before, voicing Eugene’s radio chat love interest in the 10th run.

Fans will know the actress from New Amsterdam, She’s Gotta Have It and The Family.

The Walking Dead season 11 premieres August 22 on AMC in the USA. The UK release date is August 23 on Star on Disney Plus.
