Millions of viewers tuned into the Paramount Network last Sunday, giving the latest outing of Taylor Sheridan’s hit Western series its biggest live audience yet. In amongst the usual Dutton drama, Yellowstone fans couldn’t help spotting the exciting return of Angela Blue Thunder (played by Q’orianka Kilcher), and the actress has opened up about her long-awaited return in her latest Instagram update.
Q’orianka has taken to social media to pay tribute to Taylor for another thrilling season premiere for his smash hit drama, Yellowstone.
This series sees John Dutton (Kevin Costner) holding on to more power than ever after being voted the new Governor of Montana.
Market Equities’ Caroline Warner (Jacki Weaver) is still closing in on John’s land, but Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and the bunkhouse crew have their own problems to deal with back at the ranch.
Meanwhile, Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and the Broken Rock Reservation are still unsure of what John’s new role means for the future of his coveted land.
In season five’s opening episode, One Hundred Years Is Nothing, fans saw Angela in the crowd with Rainwater when John is made governor, blaming him for the Duttons’ rise to power.
Actress Q’orianka posted a still of the scene and captioned it with a heartwarming thank you to Yellowstone’s showrunner for bringing her back on board.
“The Thunder is back!” she wrote. “Huge thank you to my Yellowstone family and to Taylor Sheridan for writing such a strong, intelligent and fierce native role!
“We need more of this kind of representation in film and television! Always such an honour to share the screen with my dear friend and badass Gil Birmingham.”
She signed off by asking her followers: “What did y’all think of Yellowstone season five premiere last night?”
In her first new scene of the season, Angela warns Rainwater: “It’s slave rules for you now.”
This certainly seems to set up an even more prevalent role for the Broken Rock native community going forward, as they’ll push as hard as they can to keep the Duttons at bay.
However, viewers may still be wondering what Angela was doing whilst the Duttons faced off against Market Equities and Garrett Randall throughout season four.

The determined Native lawyer was introduced back in season three where she struck up an alliance with Chief Rainwater.
Angela was initially built up to play a major role in subsequent seasons, but fans were surprised when she was absent throughout season four.
However, the actress sustained a neck and shoulder injury whilst filming Dora and the Lost City of Gold in 2018 and received disability benefits after being treated.
She was later charged with insurance fraud for allegedly claiming disability benefits after filming scenes of Yellowstone, which may have impeded her filming schedule.
The actress pleaded not guilty and was scheduled to appear in court in September this year, though a verdict has not yet been released to the public.
Now she’s back in the series, Angela will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with as John and his family try to keep the peace in Montana whilst maintaining control over their land.
On the other hand, John and Broken Rock have a shared goal to keep Market Equities from polluting the ranch with an airport, so could an unlikely alliance be on the cards?
Yellowstone season 5 continues Sundays on the Paramount Network in the USA and the following Monday on Paramount+ in the UK.
